You could consider a generator, however good generators like Yamaha and Honda are not cheap. You would Also need gasoline because if a major disaster wipes out power, you will not be able to get gas since the pumps are electric.

In Florida, law of the land has it that all gas stations are required to have backup generator power for gas pumping purposes. Falling short of buying a generator to keep your tank healthy during a potential power outage, you should look for things like battery backup units that have a hefty ability to keep churning any pumps, aerators and water movers during the power outage.

I don't think that it's in the cards for us to experience any extended power outages during this event. It seems already that the storm might at best skirt the state; staying a good distance offshore.

Heavy rains and gusty winds? Yes. Power outages attributable to the event? Maybe not.

    Let's keep our fingers crossed.

After Hurricane Ike, my brother ran his tank with a battery powered aerator for a live well for 2 wks till our power came back up. Luckily a cold front came thru the day after the storm hit us, so temp wasn't too much of a problem. He put a bag of ice in to cool the tank on a few hotter days. But other than that no water changes or anything. I think he lost a few corals, but most everything survived. You'll be aight.

+1 Thank God our Legislators finally woke up on that one. We need our police directing traffic at broken stop lights not riot control at our gas stations. And the thousands of extra people on the road searching for gas doesn't help emergency crews trying to clean up the mess. Hey it only took them 30 years to figure it out.Hopefully this will be enough to stop the insanity.

I'm on the infamous lake worth power grid, which goes out frequently more than FPL power. A good 2 birds with 1 stone strategy i employ frequently is powering a single koralia off of my battery backup, but put it right below the surface so it sucks in a small amount of air too. circulation AND aeration. That's all you run for maximum run time.
