Hey Guys, pretty new here still. I have a 28 gallon bowfront tank on a basic stand with a cabinet. It used to be a freshwater tank but i am in the process of converting it to a marine tank and it has been sitting empty in my living room for about 3 weeks.

I hadnt planned on using a sump but a freind who use to have a 55 gallon tank had this one and for 100 bucks, it can be mine. [IMG]

The only problem is, although the measurements fit under neath my stand for it, i cant get the sump itself in there, if that makes any sense. [IMG] There is enough room when i measure, but when i go to place it in this is what i get. [IMG]

So that got me thinking of a few workarounds, and id love opions on this. Im leaving the tank cornered, so option one would be just placing it on the floor behind the tank and not under the stand.[IMG]

The other option, i was thinking maybe i can cut the stand...[IMG]
Just enough to get the sump uner there, but im iffy about doing this as i dont want the stand collapsing. Any thoughts?

what if you put it in perpendicular to the tank so half of it is underneath the stand and you put a brick or something behind the stand so it can keep the end that is hanging off the stand level and sturdy? thats probably what I would do.

also make sure that sump holds water before you buy it because it looks pretty beat up for a hundred bucks..

That isn't a bad idea.. I wonder if it would make plumbing it more difficult? And im going to clean it out tomorow and check to see if it holds water. I am also debating building a little 10 gallon diy simple sump but i figure this might be cheaper after i buy all the glass, have it all cut and what not.

I would build it myself. Petco is having their $1 a gallon sale now so you could get your 10 gallon. Then you would use an acrylic sheet for the baffles.. another like $15.. then some silicone and superglue. It would be cheaper and you can make a refugium. Or your kinda local to me.. There are people in my reef club.. delvalreefclub that would build that for you for like $30 if you nuy the tank
