K+ for your loss, Unfortunatley i do not think you can just toss in another male let alone any goby at this point without a bit of a scuffle, from my experience gobies have a tendency to be territorial towards other gobies unless theyre either mated, or properly acclimated over a period of time with the new one being larger (not too much) or possibly rearrangeing the rockwork so both feel like the new guy until they warm up to eachother.....

Thanks for the input. I was kinda hoping I would be able to just throw a male in, but in this hobby, I kinda figured I could
nt. When I woke this morning, the female is just staying in one spot now. I guess I'd have to bring her to the LFS, and re-get a mated pair again when they have them. Just hope my niece doesnt come over before then. She's 4.

JBL, sorry for your loss. It hurts to lose a fish to which you're especially attached. Perhaps it's not the best time to say this, but I'm going to. If you're going to have an open-topped tank, you should consider simply not owning jumpers. Some wrasses, gobies, firefish, and some others are notorious for jumping.

I had one of these fish years ago and mine had the same fate. It was then I thought about it and concluded that either I cover my tank, or don't own these fish. I refuse to cover my tank for reasons of temperature control, gas exchange, light transmission, and plain convenience.

I purchased a yellow canary wrasse about a year ago, feeling pretty confident that it shouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately when my tank had issues, the fish jumped ship. It hurt to see him there on the carpet.

I don't know about the eggcrate. Light needs to enter the tank from every possible angle as it does naturally. Eggcrate would severely limit the non-vertical rays from entering.

In my opinion, my only option is to limit the species of fish I own.

Again, sorry for your loss! :(

I'm so sorry! We had a really pretty aurora goby jump and found him behind the tank. He was paired with our pistol shrimp. It was so sad - I understand how you feel! The shrimp seemed lost without his goby! We added a yellow watchman goby, who did pair up with the shrimp and are doing fine now. I really don't know the answer to your question, but wanted to send you some K for your loss. :(

Thank you both so much. You know, I was so upset about it all day, and trying to figure a way to tell my son/nieces/nephews. I went to the LFS here and inquired about it.
Yeah, they told me I could put another in there, and they might fight. I don't want to take that chance.
So, as we all do when we go to the LFS, I just had to walk around, and there was another paired up set!! Whoa! what luck! They guy even told me I could bring mine in for a credit twords them! (since he felt bad too).
What luck eh? So, he put them on hold, and will bring the one I have left back tomorrow and get the other pair! Hope the family can't tell the difference!

P.S. I picked up some of that Tulle stuff, and will be making a barrier around the lights now! No more suicides for the gobies!

If you get clear tulle it will not lower the light quality enough to make a difference. If it's not clear it will. The darker it is and the smaller the mesh the less light it will let through and also the easier it will melt if your lights get hot.
