You see a friend of mine set up a 125g tank and got a Queen Angelfish and I was wondering is his tank big enough to keep it long term??

You have to draw the line somewhere, so yes 25 gallons does make a difference. If your friend wants to keep the Queen Angelfish long term then his/her tank is not big enough.

Agreed. These estimates for tank sizes in regards to keeping certain fish are more a guide then a rule. Some fish such as tangs or angels are swimmers and therefore require alot of room.IMO

one of my books says they need a 180-500g space.

The tank is most likely too small long term. 18" max size 250 minimum according to Live Aquaria. A 7 to 8 foot long tank 20 to 24 inches wide would be the minimum required.

They get bigger than that tank can handle. I've seen one in a 800g LR bin that was 18", probably grew even more since then. I wouldn't go tell your friend to get rid of it ASAP, if it is under 8" it'll be fine for another year or 2.

In the short term he should be fine, but like others have said these fish get really big! So if you are asking can he keep this fish in this tank when it is full grown, the answer is probably no.
