A I Sol lighting

I am purchasing 2 AI sol super blue fixtures

I have a 50 Gal 36 X 18 X 18

I want to hang the lights long ways for now east to west , I plan on getting a 3rd unit in the future and then mounting them north and south for better coverage

Can you mount the fixtures either way on the cross bars, or do they sell different brackets for different orientations ?

They don't sell a bracket to hang long ways...you'll have to devise a way to do it. Don't buy the rails if you plan on hanging them long ways. You should be able to find aluminum flats at a local hardware store that can serve the same purpose.

 

I have mine long ways with standard hardware right now. But its just the one light.

 

i purchased this Amazon.com: 80/20 10 SERIES 1001 1" X 1" MONO-SLOT T-SLOTTED EXTRUSION x 48": Industrial & Scientific to make my own bracket with aluminum (flat) strips to make my own bracket.
AI's bracket cost an arm and a leg. make your own bracket and it will cost a lot cheaper and you can hang them long ways.

i currently don't have a picture of my hanging kit but it looks like the picture skurious posted. the aluminum strip i was taking about is simply an aluminum strip you can purchase at home depot. or you can try this one ( i will be using it in a week or two since i am upgrading to a 3 ai sol for my 90g).

they are a little bit wider than the extrusion but it will work if you are not picky with aesthetics.

 

Did you have to mod it in any way to hang it this way?

 

I just used a strip of wood, drilled two holes and bought some longer bolts. I think it cost around $3.

 

Incra T-Track works perfectly for the AI. They accept a 1/2 head screw(which comes with the AI). These are easy to mount as they are a track and the light can slide easy for positioning.
