I just wanted to post a few pics from last night. After some issues for the past few days I finally have my 72 bow front up and running and I am pleased so far. Will post more pics and perameters later...

about 55lbs of live rock and about 60-70 lbs of live sand

I am running a cy194 wetdry filter as the moment and lighting is a single T5 with a 4X54 pc which isnt on......

    any comments are welcome....

are you bumping as you want more input on qty of rock?

if so - the general principle is 1.5 - 2 lbs of rock per gallon, with 1.75 being offered as guideline

thus in a 72 - go for somewhere between 100 - 140 Lb of rock

an easier to use guideline would be - aim to have 1/3rd of the volume of your tank as rock ( credit to Guitarman who made me aware of this one ) - leaving 2/3rds free space for swimming etc

IMO i think that 100+ pounds of rock would be overkill in a 72 gallon.

I have a 72 bow as well and i believe i have about 70 lbs of rock.

The figure of 2lbs of rock per gallon does that take into account water displacement by the rock and correct me if i am wrong but isnt that figure more for using the rock as you primary filtration?

My advice would be add rock till you are happy with the look and go from there. Remember you have to look at it ever day not anyone else.

I believe the figure does stem from the Berlin system of reef filtration as you state.
I know the oft quoted figure, but honestly dont use it literally
I have about 1/3rd by volume rock - with 2/3rds open in my 70 gallon

I think the additional 50lb that has been added, has improved the apearance of his tank but of it where mine, Id probably add even more
