    Okay, so in my 29g i have two types of xenia. Elongata and pom pom, they are both doing well and i want to start a tank for when they grow to big and i can frag them and put them in there to let em grow out in it.

    Here is my plan.

    5g tank
    Small HOB filter
    some crappy lighting from HD till i get the money for a PC fixture.(what lighting could i get from HD that would work?)
    and like 5lbs of LR.

    Would this work?

    I can speak to the "crappy lighting" = it will probably work.

    I pulled some xenia out of my DT a few months ago and tossed it into the fuge with a little 24 or so watt (not even T-5) fluorescent bulb and it's doing fine.

    Get as high of a CCT as you can - you should be able to find at least 7500K with no problem.

    CCT=Correlated Color Temperature

    That is where you see ppl talking about "10K bulbs = 10000 Degrees Kelvin" and 14K bulbs, 20K bulbs, etc.

    Generally speaking, below 10K is readily available at HD and lowes - but are mostly only used in our hobby for refugiums or growing non-coral photosynthetic plants.

    For a more in depth explanation of what CCT is you can just do a google search there will be plenty available info.

    If you can find a higher CCT in a compact flouro bulb or whatever bulb you need - get it - but if my memory serves me they dont carry too much above 7500-9000K bulbs.

    Higher the better - that's what you need to remember.

    Yeah I would dare to say that any bulb - especially in a 5g - will be sufficient to keep xenia alive.

    Let it be clear they will not grow as fast as they would under better light - but I feel it would be a fine temp solution until you had other lighting. It should cost you no more than 15 dollars or so.

    Should be about 10 for the clip on utility lamp fixture and about 5 for a few bulbs.

    Okay, well..In that case i may just get the 3 bulb PC fixture at my LFS for now. That will be sufficient enough im guessing.
