55g Aquarium Tank with sump need help

is the tank going to be up or downstairs?
One thing you can do is put an airstone in the tank with the air pump OUTSIDE in fresh air. then put a tarp over the tank air tight. the positive pressure from the airstone will keep bad stuff out. the key is the air pump has to be in fresh clean air otherwise it does no good.

 

I would just wait until the construction over. Drywalling is dusty! You need to cut, screw, sand several times. It's not worth it in my opinion.

Here's a brief way of starting your tank. Get all of your equipment together. Setup the tank and fill with fresh water to make sure everything works and there's no leaks. Empty and refill with RO water, you can add salt and heat the water to temperature. When it's at the proper salinity, add your rock. I highly suggest getting base rock, it's cheaper and you get more for your money and you don't need to worry about any pests or nuisance algae. Either way, add it to the tank. If you are going to be curing the rock in the tank, just let it cycle. When ammonia and nitrite are 0, you can siphon out any detritus or loose debris that has fallen off the rock. Then you can aquascape and then add the sand. This will make a more stable aquascape. When the water parameters are stable, you can add a fish. I would wait a few months to start adding coral.

As for powerheads, I would suggest Koralias, They are easier to deal with and look nicer than other powerheads. I have my return, a koralia 3 and a koralia 1 and added an extra maxi jet 1200 laying around. If I were you, I would get two 3s or at least a 3 and a 2.
