if you gonna do a sump...id do a in sump skimmer...you will use the HOB skimmer for about 3 months and be like screw this and want an in-sump skimmer.....HOB seem to produce micro bubbles and stuff and not attractive in your tank....save you time and money and purchase a skimmer to put in your 10 gallon...or looking into a 15 gallon little wider...

If you are going with a sump, why would you use a hang on back protein skimmer? In sump skimmers are much more versatile in my opinion.

+1 on the micro bubble comment above. Fish and corals don't like those.

Yeah I was kinda thinking on making my own overflow using PVC, but i don't know. I want only fish for a while, but hopefully some zoas, frogspawn definitely, some soft corals. and thanks for the frag offer! i will keep that in mind :)

again...if i could fit anything bigger than a 10 gallon under my stand i would most definitely be using something bigger. but that is not an option for me. i am still working on my refugium and am hoping to be able to make room for the skimmer.

i putting two ten gallon tanks under my 55 gallon, on as a fuge one as a sump. just something to think about. using one overflow and one return pump. the hard part with my stand was the width, nothing over 10 inches wide and 20 inches long.

i definitely suggest getting your overflow straight now, a lot easier then upgrading later.

i agree....i ran a leak test a couple of weeks ago with everything running for about a week and the overflow worked fine. i may just end up buying a new one. I dont think i trust myself making an overflow.
