Ok, after being assured that my house would not collapse. yay.

I have a 45 gallon tall just sitting here waiting to turn into something.

It's just a tank and the possibilities are exciting.

I have decided that I want to do a FOWLR tank because this tank is 24" tall and I don't want to have to deal with light penetration.

I really am a big fan of inverts, so I'm immediately thinking about making it into a pistol playground, maybe even two if they could co-exist. A mountain of live rock (think of the stacking potential with this much height) and a myriad of assorted inverts.

    Thoughts? Suggestions?

I've never been quite so thrilled to see ammonia. On a side note, I called Marineland about my Penguin 350 that conked out and they said if I mail them this one they will send me out a new one!

Ok, I tossed in a little chunk of a silverside to really get the ammonia up. How many days should I leave it in there?

I would just leave it in there as long as its not a huge piece.;)
As far as pistols go. If you keep two of the same sex together they are likely to fight. Battles may also result between different shrimp species,as well as conspecifics, especially when space is limited.:( You might be able to keep a male and female of the same species. Good luck with your new tank!!8)

    It's basically a headless silverside.

A mated pair of pistols would be fantastic, will they still match up with a goby at that point?

I'm not looking for much in this tank. going to put an island of rock in the center but plan on leaving a lot of sand exposed.

The tank measures 36" wide, 12 deep, 24 high.

Aside of my inverts I only have two clowns in my 29G biocube.

I guess I like the scape as much as the life stock.

That being said I am looking to some small fish that stay up in the water column since I have more height to work with.

Not quite sure what happens when they pair up but I am assuming they don't share a burrow and still should want a goby partner. From Scott W. Michael:Little is known about the reproductive biology of many of the Alpheids. Some species are reported to be protandric hermaphrodites(females result from male sex change). However, this is such a large group of crustaceans that it is likely that not all species exhibit the same sexuality patterns.Seperating the sexes can be difficult. In the species that regularly enter the aquarium trade(in particular, the goby-associated Alpheus), the females have a broader abdomen and broader pleopods(the swimming legs located under the abdomen). The males of at least some species(e.g. Alpheus soror) also have larger claws than females.
Here is a list of some smaller fish that you might be interested in.

good, but slow. about a 2 inch sandbed 2/3 live sand 1/3 dry. Not much rock so far maybe 10 lbs, about 1/3 of that is live.

I had dropped the silverside and one of the used filters from my biocube, which luckily has some big fat pods in it, into the tank early so my cycle has gone through.

Couple days ago I scraped some coralline off the glass of my biocube and seeded the new tank with it.

Sitting at 8.2 ph, 0 am, 0 nitrite, 0 nitrate

Two lonely little hermits at the tanks only inhabitants at the moment. They seem to be enjoying stretching their legs a bit my BC29 is dense with rock so there is not much exposed sand bed. The tracks they leave look like little ATV's running across the bottom of the tank.
