I have recently purchased a 40g breeder tank (36x18x16) and was looking at various t5's and PC lights and can't decide which to go with. The PC's would provide me with 192w total which is about 5 watts per gallon (current USA orbit fixture with lunar lights) and the t5's would provide me with 156w total which is about 4 watts per gallon. Despite the bad reviews i've heard on PC's i beleive that with a 16 inch tall tank light penetration should hardly be an issue and with the increased wattage im leaning towards the PC's but i thought i would ask you guys first. Oh yea and what would my limit be on animals with the t5's as opposed to the PC's or the other way around.

    Thank You.

i think t5's are better(don't have expierence with them) because when i started the hobby i got VHO's becuase they were better then pc's. and now t5's have almost completely taken the place of vho's. my LFS told me it was almost impossible to have stony corals with pc's but they might of just been trying to sell me the more expensive one.

I was looking at the sundail 4 39w fixture, but i was talking to a local saltwater aquarist whom i bought my tank from and he said that PC's just werent effective in tanks 18" and larger because of their to inability to penetrate into deeper water and since my tank is only 16" tall i thought it would be fine. But i really have no room to talk since i havent had any experience with either kind of lights so maybe i should consider the t5's. Would the t5's open me up to new types of livestock or could i keep the same organisms (planning on soft corals only) under either light with the same results? Also i am interested in keeping anemones down the road so would either of these light be effective enough to support one?
