The nearby LFS has a DIY led fixture they are getting ready to sell that has been on their frag tank. It is a 36" long heat sync, x36 3w LED's (66% blue and 33ish% white), driven at 700 ma. My 90g currently has a Tek 4 bulb fixture on it, and I have very minimal coral in it (1 blaso frag, and a pink lemonade acro frag 3" below the surface), the tank will never have more than a little bit of lps and some small sps frags. Do you think this fixture will be adequate?

I would think that fixture would be plenty. Is your current fixture T-5? I'm not a fan of led lighting but that should be good. I'd be worried about the actual coverage though.

Current fixture is T5, I think the coverage will be ok since it's 36" long it will leave 6 inches on either side but with all 60 degree optics it should cover the whole tank I believe. I'm hoping for 6" or so above the surface.

That should be plenty then. If it doesn't work out you can always go back to T-5. Post some pics when you get it on the tank.

Since it's a DIY fixture and it is your lfs selling it I would ask if you can try it on your tank to see if you like it before buying.

I would be worried, sounds like a CW:RB fixture. If that's the case stay away.

Awful spectrum, washed out look, etc.
36 newer really nice Luxeon/Cree's that have a great spectrum would be enough lol

I think I'll have to see if I can test it out to see. They use it on their main frag tank and the tank always seemed to look fine.
