Ok, I have a big cabinet that has one 46 gallon bowfront tank on it. (Cabinet is about 19" by 74" of usable space. I have a second 45 gallon tall that I would like to put next to it on this cabinet.

This is upstairs in my office over my kitchen in a house built in 2006 to California building codes.

Any insight on the stability of this?

My guess is that both tanks and this cabinet would probably weight somewhere around 1300 pounds spread out over about 18 sq feet.

    Help!

Should add in my office is also my desk which has my 29 gallon tank and on the other side of the wall from the two bigger tanks is the washer and dryer.

    thoughts or disaster pending?

i wouldnt worry about it , CA has pretty hardcore building code and the way i rationalize it my my wife is, "just pretend ten of our friends were sitting on a couch there instead of our aquarium" If your house was 100 years old then youd might need to worry

That's the logic I've been using as well, but I'm a slight bit of a paranoid worrier and I don't want to remodel my kitchen because 90 gallons fish tank land in it.

Also the footprint of the cabinet is good sized and it's very rigid so it's not going to flex.

Have you looked into which way joists are running too? Also don't knock old world construction lol. I had my 90 on second floor for over a year and now my new tank with is little smaller but also has a 40 breeder almost full under it. House is about 170 yrs old.

I've been trying to figure that out. My garage is finished so I can't see the exposed joists. If my attic is any indication they are perpendicular to the tank so the six foot span of the cabinet is going across several joists.

Joists always run perpendicular to the length of the building with a support beam in the center of the basement/crawl space parallel with and directly under the roof ridge (peak). In a 2-story, sturdier lumber is used and 1st-floor walls are load-bearing. IOW, you'll be fine. I've yet to hear of a home collapsing from an aquarium. :)

Ok so that reinforces that it is sitting perpendicular to the joists.

next problem I have is what to do with said 45 gallon tall tank.

You should be fine. My parents house was built in the 50s 60s mane and I have a 55,10,29,2x20g all my furniture and we had afew" american" sized people in my room with id guess totaled 800lbs of people and just afew creaks no damage done. After that im now convinced I can go bigger in my room :) along with my current new 210 in my den

I was referring to both tanks. You would be in more danger of the cabinet collapsing than the floor. :)
