Hey guys I just got a 29 gallon to use as my sump, while im waiting to get my new stand built I figured I could use it to start cycling the new sand and another 15 pounds of rock I plan on getting, can I fill up the tank while its sitting on the carpet or should I put it on a 2x4 frame? I know its a wierd question just dont want to cause unnecessary stress on the tank thanks for input ;D;D;D

If it were me I would use the 2X4s.

Yeah thats what I was leaning towards, they were from a stand I was going to use but it was beat the heck up so I was just going to throw it away, then I decided to rip the top part of the frame off and I am cutting it up as we speak haha

If the 2x4 frame is simply to keep it off the carpet (not a full height stand) then I really don't see the point...the weight (or distribution of) a 29g and all the stuff in it wont change simply by raising it up a few inches.

I would just use the tank on the carpet.

My thinking was I should keep the weight of the tank where it's meant to be, on the side braces and not the carpet putting pressure on the glass

IMO, the weight will be spread put if it is sitting directly on the floor. There will be pressure on the glass a bit in the middle, but there should be just about as much in the trim, as that holds the tank together. If the tank is on the floor, weight should be more evenly dispersed...

    1. lower center of gravity
    2. meaning weight is not only directly where the tank is at, but spread out over your floor joists.
