So I just got my new T5's and some analog timers, and are planning to run them about 9-10hrs a day after my tank cycles. The fan built in the light fixture is SOOOOO LOUD!! Anyone know a solution? or a replacement fan I can install? Do I really need to run the fan? Thanks in advance.

Run the fan. Heat causes fluorescent lights to actually put out less light the hotter they get. What about a computer fan. I assume it's a 12volt fan, as that's what my 24 inch Current light fixture uses.

I would exchange the fixture. It must be malfuntioning. I've been around plenty of nova extremes and none of them made any noise.

My 48'' makes a bit of noise but it's somewhat minimal. Something you can get used to, ya know? About the light output... I never heard of them putting out less as they got hotter. The fans on the nova do a really good job of keeping the entire fixture cool. I would run it if you can stand it.
