I just finished setting up an All Glass 48x24x25 120 gal dual overflow reef tank. It was well worth the time, work and money. All Glass makes a great tank. My only regret was not getting the All Glass Mission Stand and Canopy. I might still get one but don't want to even think about the work to do that. Anyway, The overflow and return pipes were easy to work with and I was able to figure it out myself. I installed a Sealife Systems RM300 Refugium sump 36" x 12". It came with bio balls in the overflow chamber that I took out beforehand only to have to put them back in there as they're job is basically to defuse the bubbles from the overflow pipes. I put a 6" sandbed in the fuge with live rock. I have cheato on order. I put a 1" substrate in the main tank. I used Carib Sea live sand. Worked like a charm. I seeded both sandbeds with a few cups of my old sand from my 65 gal tank that had to be broken down because the 120 gal was going in that same spot. I installed a Marineland Marine Pro 300 protein skimmer, a mag drive 1200 pump, 2 Korelia 2's for the back corners and a dual timer for the 24/7 lights. I installed 8x54 T5 retrofit to the center of the canopy. The overflows on the All Glass 120 are 10" wide and they receed 7" in from the ends. This eliminates the idea of Metal halides lights on the back wall. You also have to concern yourself with the center brace as a metal halide might melt it or any other piece of plastic. I had a 20" moonlight strip so I attached that and coupled it with the 8 LED moons that came with the T5 fixture. The T5 has 2 blue actinics that come on to similate dawn and dusk. The other 6 bulbs are made up of 2 blue actinics and 4 10K daylights. Great setup for under $350! I plugged the lights in and I couldn't believe the amount of light coming out! It was then that I decided that I didn't need halides. I had 432 watts of intense light. All my corals are responding well. I saw a clown fish with sunglasses on.8) My water parameters are fine.
What an experience is all I can say here are some pics.
