    Should I be topping off tank during initial cycle?.

    Might want to chuck a peice of shrimp or something in there though to really get it going. + some beneficial bacteria supplements.

    I have no algae in my tank, but run GFO etc. I dont think it contributes to phosphate. I think it is purely a mix of substrate and waste.

    I am not sure also. The red stuff looks like cyanobacteria so thats not beneficial, but there also looks like some pockets of beneficial bacteria....
