Marc (Melev) had a great way of transporting coral via luggage, check out his site. Was basically a cooler within his luggage and everything did well.

I would say removing and cleaning out the Aerofuge or Vortechs. A royal pain but it's needed.
Ha heres my two cents. I have never used tap water for my reef, but with a TDS of over 600.. I just can't take that risk!
I would agree about the nass snails, though if your sandbed is shallow enough, you could just rake it once a week or so with the pumps off.
