The only problem with PH monitors is that they should be re-calibrated every 6 months. So who knows when was the last time that guy calibrated his. Food for tought. luna

yea I was thinkin bout getting the salifert ph test and compare the results to my api kit i already have. I just need the test for ca mg because they were low and it was causing for my coraline and stuff not to grow. I just found a mushroom and looks cool so i want to get my levels up and not kill it. I'm using purple up as a CA supplement, you think it's good for that?

I personaly dont like Purple up(PU). PU is not a good source of Cal. PU also has decent levels of Iodine, so becareful with that. You need to use supplements that are made just for Cal if you want to raise your Cal levels. Keep in mind that you should test for everything you dose. I personaly use Kent Marine's Liquid Cal. Ok I'll switch to just plain Ca then. I did read something about the Iodine. I'm new to this but am learning.

You should consider using a DIY calcium/alkalinity supplement. For under 30 bucks, I was able to make my supplements 1 year ago and I still have a ton left. Check this out:

As far as this recipe goes, I use Preston Driveway Heat, but thats the only thing available. Also, Like I said above, Ive been using this method for over a year now and I cant see the difference between this cheap method and the expensive additives you buy in the stores.
