I was thinking about getting a uv sterilizer for my tank but I was wondering if I could put it on the water coming into the sump from the main tank or would the bubbles from there make it not work so great? also what do you guys do to keep your water crystal clear? :)

placing it in the water line coming into the sump is not a good idea. most uv's have water gph recommendations. And if you have it going threw to fast or slow they both have disadvantages. its best to get a separate pump and place that in your sump to feed the uv. have the out flow of the uv going to the area where the main pump is that feeds your tank.

i use a uv and chemi - pure elite to help keep the water crystal clear. not to mention the skimmer.

if you look at the pictures in my profile of the sump. you will see my uv laying across the top of the sump. its white and to the left

thanks for the advice and what kind of uv do you have? I was thinking of just getting a cheap odyssea one and see what that did, and if it works good and it breaks ill just buy a better one then. but all of my odyssea products work great so maybe that one will too. thinking of this one

I run a turbo twist, but more to keep things like ich from occurring. I also run mine sitting across the top of my wet dry with a seperate pump feeding it from the return chamber.........

    i have this one
Aqua UV Classic 8 watt UV Sterilizer w/Optional Wiper by Aqua Ultraviolet - AquaCave
bought it on ebay cheap than bought a new bulb for it.
i see your point about going cheaper. i looked for the specs and they dont really tell you much. i didnt see what pump size is to be used, also whats the size of it? here are some more thoughts,
contact time that the water has passing past the bulb is important. also not all bulbs are created equal. i believe mine says its a 14 month change time. some say 6 months bulb change.
