I was just wondering how often do you do water changes. Also when you mix you salt how do go about it. Do you put it in a bucket a day or two before with heater and powerhead. Just curious to see how many water changes people do and how they go about mixing their salt.::)

I personally would do a water change whenever my nitrates would reach an uncomfortable point. As for mixing salt you can use a rubbermaid trashcan or tote and like u said place a powerhead in that joker and mix ur salt until it is at the desired temp and salinity. A drain in ur sump connected to a ball valve makes water changes alot easier...all you would do to rid the tank of old water is open the ball valve and drain the desired amount. If you search the forums on this site it will go into more detail for you so u can set up a topoff system using a float sensor.

I do (2) 10g water changes every month, no matter what. I dont want to wait until somethings going bad. I also replace the fiber pad once a month and clean all the sponge filters every week. All the pumps get an " over haul " every other month.

I do about 18l/5g water change every two weeks, change carbon every few weeks and rinse it weekly/biweekly. I got lax on water changes a few months back and worked harder to get the nitrates down because of it so for me every two weeks and an hour of my time is worth it. I also stir up my crushed coral, blow the LR with a turkey baster when I do the water changes.
I fill the bucket with water, add air stone, get the temp correct, then I add the salt, stir, and it's ready the next day!

Water changes are the most important thing you can do to keep most problems at bay.

I mix mine 3 days before changing in plastic garbage pail. Run an airstone and heater in it before using.

    As I have a high bio-load, I do at 20 gallons a week.

Can easily tell all tank creatures are happier for it.

I can't understand those who say they never change water. Their fish and coral must feel like they are living in a sewer.
