Water Change Problem???

    Yesterday i did a water change and for the the first time doesed with iodine..... my coraline algea (purple / pink) turned redish orange when i woke up... what happened??

    How much did you dose and are you checking the levels first?
    you shouldn't need to dose iodine if your doing water changes, the salt has it in it.

    i dosed 20 ml for a 36g tank... im in the process of checking parms.

    :eek: WHAT?????????? 20 ML on a 36gallon tank????????? Who told you to dose and why???????? what did you use(brand name)

    Last time I tested iodine I only used 1 drop on my 135......

    sorry, don't mean to over-react, but that is WAY too much....

    API ECo Iodine Reef Supplement . LFS told me iodine level was low... 5ml per 10 gallons and i probally did 15ml didnt fill the cap all te way

    phew ok just read the msds it's 99% water. 1% propietary stuff which means much less than 1% iodine.

    Like RHorton said you really don't need it, it's in the salt. Unless you test for and an know what it is and what it does, you shouldn't put it in your tank....

    IMO, compared to the stuff I use, you might have used 3-4 drops, which is a very high amount for a 36 gal. you might want to change some more water and check it again after. Get yourself an iodine test kit.

    Iodine won't just go away it needs to be used by something and seems like your coralline ate it. Phos is high. are you using ro/di water, bottled or tap?
