Are you using it for an ATO system, or just to make water?

I purchased a 25 gallon per day (gpd) Spectra Pure RODI for $150, and it works great. It's in the garage, and when I make water, I just bring the garden hose in, attach it to the unit via included adapter, put the good water hose in the 30 gal bucket, the bad water hose runs outside, and turn on the faucet. Mine requires 40-80 psi, and my water pressure brings it up to about 45 psi, producing about 15 GPD. If I need 5 gallons, I'll just put the hose in a 5 gal bucket and leave it for 8 hours. M

My guess is your water supply pressure will not be enough to pass 80 psi.

I've been quickly learning from other people that you get what you pay for in this hobby. Dont skimp on your water supply...

Here you go. It definitely will be cheaper in the long run than buying water, and more convienent IMO. I have mine mounted to the garage wall with a few buckets underneath. You might want to think about extending the "waste" water hose to somewhere outside though, as it produces 4-6 times the amount of "good" water (if you're making 25 gallons of RODI water, the waste hose will expell between 100-150 gallons of water).

You should purify the water in at least 10 gallon batches to keep the system working properly. Most systems come with all of the connection options. There are connectors available for hooking to the faucet.

Agreed. Also, let the system run for 10-20 minutes before collecting the water, this will allow any impurities to flush. Also consider the optional flush valve, which will extend the life of your filter. Most of these things are talked about in the user manual, which turned out to be more complicated than I thought. (One would just think "hook up water supply, collect RODI water", uh uh, there's some fine tuning to be done)

Water will stay in the filter, you'll be able to see that via the clear plastic surrounding the filters. As long as you use it somewhat often, and do not remove the membrane, you wont have to worry about it. As far as replacement, that's a common debate. I haven't gotten that far yet, and so I will not answer a question I do not know.

When buying a used system you almost always end up with someone elses problem. In other words you get what you pay for.
Odds are a used system will need new filters, membrane and DI to start with so plan on another $75-$100 or so to get it in shape. You will also need a TDS meter and pressure gauge which it may not have and thats another $50.
A new system will run you between $169 and $199 and will have all of the above brand new and with a warranty or guarantee. Save your money and buy new, in the meantime buy bottled distilled water at the grocery store.

You do not have to make water in 10 gallon batches, a few gallons at least every 7 to 10 days is more than sufficient to keep a membrane flushed and in working order. If you are looking at the Spectrapure they have a sale on better units, look at the CSP-DI for $199, it has the TDS meter, pressure gauge, 0.5 micron prefilter and carbon block, refillable full size 20 oz SilicaBuster DI and a 90 GPD batch tested high rejection rate RO membrane. Hard to go wrong with that.
