Quick question. My tank is all cycled and I have my Clean up Crew in there now. I remember I was worried about them all having enough algae to eat lol (not a problem at all :LolLolLol)

I Did a 50% water change after the cycle and my first "weekly" water change, but nitrates are still 40ppm. I was thinking about buying Chaeto off the forums to try and bring them down. I don't have the $ for the sweet LED FUGE light I want, but since I don't have fish yet, can I just put it in the main tank? I have a 150watt MH light that is on for 8hrs a day. I thought I remember reading that Chaeto does not need 24x7 light, is that wrong?

I just setup a 45 cube so i dont have a fuge/sump yet either. I went to my LFS bought a breeder net cost 5.00$ and tax i hang it on the inside, dont take much room at all and my chaeto is growing like crazy with my normal 150 MH lighting for the tank.

Yeah, you can put it in the main tank. Chaeto doesn't need 24x7 light, either. I would make sure it's in the upper half of the tank. The CUC won't really eat chaeto.

Why not use a cheap cone reflector and grow bulb for now?

It can take hold and be hard to get rid of in the future.

You are correct. It doesn't need 24 hour lighting.

Awesome thanks for all the quick answers! The reason for not using a cheap light yet is because I still need $ for live rock rubble etc. I just spent $40 for a pump on Saturday so funds are tight. Chaeto is $10. I will see if I can rig up something to keep the chaeto separate with stuff I already have.
    Thanks again!
