I'm a fan of getting inked for sure. I don't think any tattoo is stupid as long as you have thought about it for quite some time. Just don't rush into getting marked for life. The DNA one is pretty cool, how detailed would it be?

I've got a half sleeve of Tahitian art, including a map of a surf spot only me and two other people know about. I figured it'd be cool to take that secret to the grave with me ;)

My first tat runs from an inch or so below my hair line down my back to my tailbone. Some spots hurt more than others... but I did the whole thing in one 4 hour 15 minute sitting.

Just MO, but I'm not a fan of tats in languages you can't actually speak or read (if you can speak and/or read it, then that's different).

I also don't like tattoos of other people's symbols and trademarks. In the same thinking, I automatically do not like any tattoo that's already in the artists little book or up on the wall. Tattoos are suppose (IMO) to be symbols of yourself... you're not going to find that on someone's wall. And I wouldn't want to be at a concert or other place and find the dude next to me has the same tat. That's a lot worse than having the same band shirt!

I am a fan of tramp stamps. I also wish the whole g-string above the pant line style would come back. 8) Maybe that was saying too much.

I think lots of tattoos qualify as stupid, I have to admit. The ones where the belly button is a stand-in for other orifices... dumb and probably regretted. The latest movie character on your calf. Dumb. (I have seen several Iron Man tats recently and anticipating some Hugh Jackman ones) But it's really a matter of what you like, not what Peredhil likes.

I do like the helix idea. You can maybe find the code for a clownfish or Zoa or something and get that helix inked. Would combine the best of both worlds.

So, sorry if I have offended anyone or inadvertently made fun of your ink. You are still awesome!

PS: getting secret location maps inked is so very awesome. Age old tat there! Very cool.

Amen. I couldn't agree with this post more! Specially with the languages, and the g-string ;)
I would like to add in any form of "tribal" design. Nothing like a guy that is as pale as me covered in them. It's like "Yeah that's nice, and what tribe are you part of exactly?" ;)

Ahh a area that I have expertise in lol. I have been a tattooist for 20 years. I have taken a break for a while though (to finish schooling and stuff). The last expo there was a guy who had his whole back done like a salt water reef and it was awesome the colors where very vivid, he had plans on getting his arms done with the same concept. (ill have to see if I can dig the picture out).

with that said whatever you get has to be what you want not what you think others will like, I always ask my customers are you sure that's what you want if not take your time, don't get a tattoo just to get one.

also I'm sure you have heard this but
make sure the tattooist you chose is reputable (don't take his word for it)
make sure he uses a brand new needle (not a used re sterilized one) which I have seen many tattooist do this and I never reuse a needle.
and don't be afraid to ask him questions on his sterilizing procedures its your body you have a right to know.

Well whatever you chose to get post a pic would love to see it!

Depends, there is tribal and then there is cultural art. Tribal is just too vague.

My ink was done in Tahiti.....the traditional way. I was invited to get it done after surfing with a few locals down there right when I was 18. I'm not tahitian (I'm not white either), but it has a ton of meaning to me, especially the shark teeth. It was cool that they let the grandfather let me keep the tools when he was done with my art

I do have annoyances in the form of tattoos, but I just choose to keep them to myself. It's not my place to tell someone what I think is "cool" to put on their own body

Tramp Stamps? More like a** antlers. :D (don't kill me...)

I think you should get the word "Sunshine" inked on the bottom of your foot, so then you could go around saying you were "walking on sunshine."

    I'm a goober. I know.

I agree completely. It's up to you. Our opinions are nothing more than that.

And that's good advise. If you didn't personally see the needle come out of a sealed bag, as far as you're concerned, it didn't. Make him/her open a new one or walk out. They will probably make a point to make sure you see that... hopefully.

Well, I hope you don't mind me saying so slocal, but that's a very very cool story. I, personally, would qualify that as something different entirely. I think the 'tribal art' reference was pointed at mainstream... which this is not.

Where is luna when we need him? all this tat talk and no pics? LOL this is my first tat.. yes I went LARGE for my first... this was drawn by a local artist just for me, then the copies were given to me so it can not be reproduced. I had this drawing for nearly 2 years before I decided to get it.

Why not Dr.Fragenstein on your upper back?! :)

I think a nice piece of a favorite fish would be cool
Sorry, I haven't read the entire thread... where are you planning on putting it?
What about Neil Pert with a fish for a face like the Uncle Sam with the Pufferface?!?! :)
