I picked a SWC unit up today and would like to know what type of media everyone recommends to use before I hook it up tomorrow.

careful with these, they are very finicky and can ruin your chemistry. If used correctly tho they can also work wonders

Aqua Medic : Seawater Catalogue : Filter substrate : sulfur pearls

but dont forget you always need to run hydrocarbonate to directly from the sulphur

Aqua Medic : Seawater Catalogue : Filter substrate : Hydrocarbonate

EDIT: just realised your a sponsor and already know the score with these. Well you cant go wrong with aqua medic products, but you prob already know that too.

lol I would never assume someone knows something because they are a sponsor. I am completely clueless about these things. That's why I'm looking at setting it up and learning something new.

As I understand it I need to run sulfur pellets as a de-nitrification media than hydrocarbonate after it to fix the water chemistry. Is this correct?

Do I have to run CO2 for teh hydro?

I also heard that the hydro can be a good buffer and add calcium. Would I need to run CO2 to get those benefits?

I would offer no advice since you have already gotten it , That being said I would just follow the directions that came with it to the letter , Good luck and I wish you the best with it..

That's the problem. The directions are not overly specific. All it really says is how to assemble it and to put coral sand inside.

Its called product liability that way you can never say they told you how. All of these type units are very very vague ..
