I would have gotten a second opinion. If the alternator (which charges the battery) was "out" the battery would have died. "If" the water pump was "out" the vehicle would have been over-heating. So I doubt the validity of those two repairs.

    it is a Toyota.

The battery did die on the last day. Had to be jumped. I hope I dont need a new battery also!

Water pump...have no idea. Havent noticed it running hot, but I am the typical girl with cars obviously!

There was a warning light on for the last several months but it was the light that comes on when it needed an oil change and the other light indicates I needed air in my tires. But I will look at the manual when I get it back to see if the lights indicates other things. I have been lecutred a ton about this...LOL

I should have taken it to get a second opinion but honestly this is the same guy that my entire family used since I was a little kid. He has told me in the past (when I had clunckers) to just get a case of oil, and when the case runs out sell it for scrap! He has also sent me at least a couple times to other places where he knew I could get the work cheaper (tires, brakes etc) So I really dont think he is hosing me....however I did ask for all the parts!

What model and engine size is the yota?

These are typically one of the best cars out there, as you stated, it is not the car's fault, so something weird must have happened.

Did you actually need to put 4 qts of oil to get it to the proper level? If so, the most oil of any yota there is on 07 is the 4.7 v8, which i have one in my 04 4runner. I think that takes 6 qts of the top of my head. even if thatw ere 4 qts low, that would be very bad for it if it was run for any amount of time.

Most yotas need like 5 qts of oil, so if you had to add 4, then it only had 1 qt in it! scary at best.

I hope your car is fixed for good, and I really don't want to sound like I am lecturing you, I just hate car issues.

Schack, I would still see if Toyota will do anything. A word of advice, next time (I hope it isn't soon) if you are just past your warranty, in this case on the mileage, even though you have a trusted mechanic (I didn't mean to disparage him/her) give the dealer a chance to satisfy you, they sometimes will kick in half of the repair bill or something to keep you as a customer. Play it up with the dealer, tell them how dis-satisfied you are. O.k. no more advice, just hope it all works out. We just dropped $1,300 for a blown air compressor on my wifes' Honda CRV. It too was over on the mileage and Honda Corporate refuses to help with the cost so I found a law suit just for that problem and have turned it over to the lawyer in charge and maybe I'll get some money back.
Go here; http://www.automobilemag.com/auto_recalls/05/suvs/toyota/index.html to see if you vehicle was supposed to be recalled.

And here;http://www.google.com/search?q=toyo...&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&ie=&oe= to look for any help, like people suing etc.

I've had cars with 185,000 miles not go through even 1 quart of oil. Something, somewhere, went very wrong. Good luck with the repairs ....

I agree with you. I have had a couple with a ton of miles on them. One I had over 400,000 miles on before a drunk driver blew his stop light and took out that bronco2.

A couple years ago my Honda had some rare air conditioning problem and the car made this horrible noise all the time. Anyway, the bill came out to about $1400. $1400 for air conditioning!! It wasn't covered under warranty so I tried contacting Honda. Without even having to fight, they paid the entire bill, minus labor. Woo!

You should definitely try contacting the manufacturer about it. You won't lose anything for trying!
