looked at the rescues, they have a few adult huskies, but with that breed I would be scared to get one as they more then likely have behavior problems. Also we have a cat so unless we get a puppy, the cat will not be safe. every thing I've read says as long as they are raised with the cat it will be fine, if not, the cat will be a goner. The breeder 6 hours away actually has one that she got back from an older couple that got sick and couldnt train it. She would give it to me for almost nothing, but the cat would be in danger and it would take some intense training.

Most of this has been pointed out already, but from my own upbringing with a pair of rottweilers as a teenager I will repeat it :p
Make sure the dog is spayed or neutered, make your son responsible for feeding and exercising it and most importantly get them both enrolled in obedience class as soon as possible so your son will learn to properly establish himself as the alpha male in the relationship as well as how to control it in unpleasant situations.

I can't stress enough the importance of being a pet owner. Dogs have some special nuances that can cause a boatlaod of different issues.

hopefully you do get one. such an awesome dog. ive never owned a siberian, but did have a samoyed. a little bit less than a siberian in regards to wanting to be king. but ive also been associated with a malemute, which i consider to being even more aggressive than the siberians. one of the biggest things , other than the obedience training, with them being pack dogs, is asserting who is alpha. whether thats your son or yourself, you have to let the dog know who rules. basically a pecking order or even a hierarchy. your son or you 1st , yourself or son 2nd , and then the dog 3rd or lower. i have 2 dogs , that arent necessarily the same type mentality as the husky type dogsw, but did set the pecking order that i was alpha, and also doesnt mean any sort of meaness or cruelty was involved. just show them whos boss, which i think is important. these are just my opinions. and everyone is different. but i hope all goes well

Well, if you're willing to be patient, you could wait for a puppy to be available through a rescue. But, it's totally up to you - just pointing it out! But I do agree for you it's best not to get an adult, because you won't know what you're getting into.

Definitely spay/neuter and get lots of training. Also, puppies will show what their temperaments will be like quite early in age, so make sure the breeder knows what you are looking for in a dog, so she/he can find a good match for you.

never had personal experience but my advice will be coming from a whole different perspective as my sister has 3 rescued Border collies:

Buy a really really GOOD vaccuum cleaner.....the whole shedding issue if not considered could open up a whole different aspect of life with a Husky :)

Someone is going to have to be responsible for that part too :)
