My melonaris (idk, how to spell it) wrasse... is a killer! In the course of 6 months, it has eaten 11 cleaner shrimp and now 4 peppermint shrimp. I know it's her... I saw her take my biggest, and last, peppermint about 30 mins ago. I've also witnessed her picking on 2 LTA which perished afterwards from the amount of damage done. My LFS tells me that they pick on things when they're underfed or the victim is already on it's way out the door. I call BS! My parameters are in check across the board. There's no way she's underfed, my tank is fed daily and I watch her eat more than her fair share. So what gives? LFS said that she is totally a reef safe wrasse. How can I get this S*#$head out of here? (please excuse my frustration) It's a 200 gallon tank and I know there's no way I'm going to be able to net her. I know people use fish traps, tell me how you've done it? LFS will take her back... just gotta get her first.

The easy way is a fish trap. Middle ground is turn your tank into a FOWLR, or worse case, tear the whole thing down and try to catch it.

Well, it is a FOWLR now!! Ugh, I hate her, I hate her, I hate her!

Have you used a fish trap? How is it done?

No, that's a lie. It's not fish only. Corals... I have corals. No more inverts. Frustration makes me dumb.

Not sure if it'd work but try getting a sterile bucket, put it in the tank with the handle out of the water and put food at the bottom, when she's in, pull it out. Or try a real fish trap. Try a quick search on like f&s aquatic in the trap section.

Plain and simple, its a box with a door and you put food in it and watch until she takes the bait. Thats pretty much it. They sell for about 40 dollars.

It's melanurus. And yes, they will try to eat your inverts if underfed. Once per day is underfed BTW.

Any shrimp you have prior to their introduction will likely be fine. Anything you add once they're established will be seen as food if they're underfed...

Here's mine in my reef. It can be done under the right conditions.
