I dont believe they are that difficult. Just look for signs (being skinny).
I have a large orange spotted goby in my 37 gallon and he is fat and eats well.

Sounds like you have plenty of rock and sand for him to hunt for food in. He should be fine. What other fish do you have?

They can be difficult if they don't have enough food. You do have a lot of rock so that's good. Mainly just be sure there is a good pod population and try and get it to eat frozen mysis or some other good food.

Also just make sure you know it's not actually a blenny, but a dragonet, like a mandarin. You can buy bottled copepods that they like to eat if you need to but it will get pricey because they eat a ton of pods. Looks into a refugium or some other way of cultivating pods for it to eat since most don't ever eat frozen/prepared food.

If you don't think you can sustain the food supply or think it's too much of a challenge why not take it back? A lot of LFS's will accept it back although not for full cost, at least you get something back.

Here's a bunch of info if you haven't found this site yet.

mine was fine until he totaly destroyed the pod colony
make sure they don't run out of food
it is very wierd once they run out of things to hunt they will just sit and wont even eat food right in front of their face
im sure you wont have a problem as long as you have an ok copepod colony sounds like you have a lot of rock so you should be fine
