I have a 55 gallon, RODI water. 87 lbs liverock, sump with skimmer, mag 7 return. Just posted pics on the "show off your tank section".
I have a lot of turbo snails, peppermint shrimp, other snails, blue legs but the only thing in my tank that cleans the sand is my 4 wheel drive gobie (found a pic but dont know the real name). He has been cleaning the sand religiously but recently started missing a couple areas that are getting thick with algae. What can I add to my tank to clean my sand! I dont want to disrupt the sand bed and do it manually.
I just tested everything. All values are 0. Ph 8.2. Salinity 1.0245

    Thanks for your help.

I would suggest siphoning it out. Ceriths are good for stirring the sand but if your current crew ignores the spot you should siphon out what you can.

what are "other snails", there are some great sand sifting snails that will do it for ya. I'd order a quick cuc, from reef cleaners.com Prob should be solved. But out of curiosity, what type of algae, brown, red, green? And how old is your tank?

It was green and then brown. It isnt proliferative, just coats the top of the sand. Not sure of the exact species. The lights are off or i'd take a pic.

I have some snails that are black and white stripped but they only work on the live rock... turbos, (small and huge), and maybe a couple cerith. The turbos will cross the sand to get to the glass...but thats about it.

The tank is about a month old but the liverock and sand came from a 6 year + aquarium, just added RODI water.

Dinos but usually they are just brown. Could be a type of cynobacteria as well.

What I would do so others on here can help you. List how many fish, Corals, and critters you have in your tank. Also, all foods & additives.

Reason your nitrates, nitrites, and phosphates are down is the the algae is consuming those things and its reading all 0's.

It sounds like cyano algae, I actually have it in my tank right now to and my snails ignore it

It's easiest to remove when it's thick. Actually siphons up as a mat and leaves most of the sand underneath undisturbed.

Hey, In my tank I have a juvenile sailfin tang, a (1cm) baby blue tang, a two spot gobie, 2 maroon clown fish, 3 peppermint shrimp, 1 coral banded shrimp, about 15 big turbos, 5 black/white stripped snails, 3 nassarius snails, a few cerith snails, 5 blue leg hermits, 3 red leg, a few zoos that came on the liverock, 6 or 7 mushroom corals.

I feed veggie flakes and marine flakes by omega one, green algae strips (I float).

Yea, maybe I will vacuum the top layer...

    thanks guys for the advice.

What kind of lighting are you using and how
old are the bulbs? I'm having an algae bloom right now but I know it's from my bulbs getting too old. About to make the plunge to led hopefully next week.

Have LED, they arent really good enough for coral although my zoos and mushrooms are thriving with them. They are 54x1w (8 actinics). Its by beamswork.

A guy I met at an aquarium store told me I was keeping the lights on way too long... I was jealously leaving the light on so the tank looked cool...but it was probably about 14 hours a day haha woops. So now I'm down to 9 and I manually removed the algae with a small flour sifter. I added some nassarius snails (they just burrowed however). But I hopefully got it under control.
