    Hi

I recently was lucky enough to find a source of Rowaphos where I am
I have used it on set ups in UK

up until I found this, I tried various GFO brands - Aquamedic, Tropic marin (Elimiphos long life) Azoo, plus others I cant recall.

    questions

    Is Rowaphos GFO?
the reasons I ask are simply

    1) the Qty per litre/gallon is 50% the amount that the instruction with my previous products suggested
    2) Im using in a cannister and Rowa indicates no need to rinse when used this way - again this is different from instructions on other 2 products

Yes, it is (with a twist....that's why it's damp. I can't explain, it's a Trade Secret). That will explain your question number 1.

For question 2, when they first released Rowaphos in the states, almost everyone was using media bags in a sump. That's what the instructions on the bottles said. Then came the Phosban reactor and the instructions were never updated to say, "If you use in a reactor, you must rinse the media". This is straight from the horses mouth. The company was at MACNA and I asked about this specifically.

excellent information Inwall 75, thank you

I got a 1000 Gramme tub and only need to use 100g each time (was using 250 of the T Marin as per instructions) so I have at least 10 months supply = excellent

GFO and GFH are two forms of the same thing. Granular Ferric Oxide is shipped dry. Granular Ferric Hydroxide is shipped wet or damp. Same thing, different presentation. We have used both in the drinking water industry for 15 years to remove arsenic and there is little if any difference.
