i noticed a smell in my ro/di water the other day when topping off my tank. i first thought something had gotten in my container so i got a different container and when i filled it. it still had the same smell. i thought it was probably time to change the filters so i changed them and still the same smell. my tds meter shows 0ppm. i did not change the di resin because i had just changed it not too long ago. i do not know what it causing this smell and i dont know if it is bad. can anyone help?

Did you disinfect the system when you changed the filters?

I would think you may need to disinfect the unit. You may need to replace the membrane possibly, not sure on that though.

I have posted disinfection instructions many many times, you should be able to bring it up with a quick search on any of the forums.

While I do recommend disinfection every 6 months at filter change time thats probably not your problem. The below is from Spectrapures website FAQ's and addresses DI resins and smells:

"Type 1 Strong based Anion resins release very low levels of amines (trimethylamine). A very low threshold of 5 PPB or greater will cause a fishy odor to be noticeable. The odor is most noticeable when the resins are new and when they are at or near the point of exhaustion.

NOTE: Trimethylamine is also released by decomposing fish which also results in the same type of odor. "

Note the smell is noticable at 5 PPB or parts per billion so is very strong. Even though you may have replaced resin recently I'll bet it was either old or not stored properly and is near exhaustion.

Turns out that the bladder in my storage tank busted and caused it to rust or something I bought a new tank and haven't had any other issues.

You are not storing RO/DI in a bladder tank are you???
Not a good idea at all.
If you must use a bladder tank, which isn't really a good idea for our applications, store RO only water in the tank then draw RO out of the bladder to run back through the DI cartridge to make your RO/DI.

Better yet, place a check valve and tee in the line so you can still use the bladder tank for RO only and drinking water or whatever but seperate the DI circuit completely so you make RO/DI without the TDS creep associated with all bladder tanks.

Here is an example or what I am talking about which will save a ton on DI replacements:
