So im trying to dial in and overall just learn more about my remora skimmer. I want it to be pulling out dry skimmate but i have had no luck in finding the right spot with the o-ring. So i am asking for anyone out there that is running thier Remora dry, to upload some pics of your collection cup i action!

I need the skimmer to remove less water from the tank so i am not doing top-offs all the time!

    Appreciate the help

If you have it on the 54gal, it shouldn't be removing enough water to do anything to the water level in that tank. You culprit is probably evaporation, not the skimmer, unless you have it real wet and hooked up to a drain line.

BTW, I used to have one of those skimmers, if you want to dry skim you should put the cup as high as possible. If it's still wet, you may have a lot of dissolved proteins and organics.

I have the Pro with the Mag 3 pump.....I had the same issue you are having.
I called Aqua C and jason said he would send me a valve to put on the intake side. He did right away which i thought was very cool.

However inbetween I found a happy spot...I have the papertowel on top the injector tube chamber....then I slowley moved the o-ring up everyday like an 1/8" and now have decent foam....I am not sure if it will make really dry foam.......I now get like maybe 2" in the cup everyother day and it is like dark tea looking

I am going to try to valve but I am going to get enough tubing to set the pump on the bottom of tank so its not hanging out in the open.

I had to put the o ring under the fitting on collection cup for the drain. Its the only way i could dry skim. Hope this helps.

BTW i am using the preskimmer with it, and maintaining the water level for this has begun to be a pain in the ***. This skimmer has been removing about a cupfull of liquid every day. I had read on a previous post on 3reef to start out halfway and slowly move the o-ring up. this is the phase i am in now, and i have moved my o-ring almost all the way down, raising the cup's height.

So far its performance has been AMAZING, when you get it nice and broken in and performing correctly, this is a GREAT skimmer. If you are looking for a HOB style skimmer, i feel safe to say these are the leader in that market. The film on the top of my tank was removed and the water clarity has increased.

Agreed. The preskimmer is a pain. The water level isn't a pain to maintain due to the liquid removed by the Remora. It is a pain due to evaporation. This is the main reason why I added a sump and a regular surface skimmer.
