I got a brief glimpse of Reefbrite's nifty little lit magnifier at Reefstock this year, but never got a chance to give it a whirl over some real life corals. This week the best forum on the net, 3Reef of course, changed all that for me!

Un-packing it, it looked just like I remembered. Their Aquaviewer is a nice little magnifier with their very own LEDs packed into the backside to light your way. This wasn't enough for them though, so they really made something for the careful shopper by including both their white LEDs and blue LEDs which can be switched on independently of each other. This means that you can look at a coral under the lighting of your choice and see what that frag really looks like!

Finally for the fun part. The Aquaviewer takes four AAA batteries which I was luck to have on hand, and after putting them in, it fired right up with the intensity you could expect from Reefbrite. With a carefully placed hand for shade over a tank, you can easily drown out a shops lighting to see what a coral really looks like. I tested it on a tank washed out by only Reefbrite blues and still with the Aquaviewer's whites I could easily turn a coral back into what it should be. The only negative comment I have for Reefbrite on this one is that the lens is focused too close. It must be within a few inches to get a good view, but even without looking through the lens, it's a valuable tool for sniffing out the BS.

Thank you Matt for letting me check this one out!
