Hello fellow reefers. I am in need of some assistance.... Can any of you help identify the purple thing coming out of the center of my mushroom? My wife noticed it a couple of days ago and I was fortunate to take a pic of it today. Thank you in advance.

The pic is too blurry to me, maybe you could give a written description? looks sorta like string twisted into little balls? is it coming out of the shrooms mouth?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
I believe you are seeing mesenterial filament. Most of the time when see them there is not a problem, but on occassion it is related to some type of stress. You may also see them when the mushroom is feeding.

Mine do that from time to time. Not just red ones either. I think it has to do with some feeding or territorial thing that they do.

Basically thats its insides, they do that occasionally or at least mine do. As coralline says its thier mesenterial filament. I assume that they do it when they are disgorging something that they have eaten kinda like an anemone does after they have eaten. And since mushrooms are actually in the same family as anemones then it stands to reason...

I did not know they did it when they are happy. I've only seen it after they got bumped or when they are unhappy.
