Hi! Just noticed that there are several of these 1/4 inch red branches on the rear glass of my aquarium. Does anybody have any idea what they are? Thank you.

Looks like some form of macro to me. I'm not up to speed on macro species so you'll have to wait for someone more knowledgeable.

Thank you for your input anpgp. Any other ideas? The subject in question is exactly in the middle of the picture (between the rocks) in case some were unable to see it. There is also a piece of one right above the lower rock.

This object has manipulated its form nearly 100% during the course of 1 day. I am really interested to know what these growths are in my tank.

It demonstrates the morphology/body plan of rhodophyta, a red macroalgae.

I don't think this resembles a hydra (polyp stage hydrozoan) in the slightest, though I could be wrong. I suppose you can send me a fragment in a preservative suspension, and I can take a gander under a microscope for more of a definitive analysis.

Thanks again for the input. Once again it has changed its shape after one day. So I guess the answer is a type of hydroid or a rhodophyta red macro. Whatever it is, it is quite unique the way it completely changes shape from day to day. All the other ones in the tank are also changing, I just am not able to take a clear picture of them. I could possibly try to extract one from the tank, but I think I would rather leave them be and avoid the hassle of moving LR around and spooking my fish. Thank you for the offer though dorian.
