I just bought a used 40g breeder, and one of the beads of silicone seems like it was nicked with a razor. The question is:

If i plan on doing the one corner bead, should i remove the silicone that is actually between the panes of glass or should i cut it flush with the inside of the panes and then run my new bead with the old silicone still between the actual panes?

Thanks, sorry if that question was convoluted, but any help would be appreciated!!!

no you do not want to cut or knick the silicone between the panes of glass. There are a lot of sites that shows how to reseal a tank...... I will try to find the sites. This is honestly a big royal pain to do! Good Luck

Does it hold water? Can you post a photo? If it isn't bad, I wouldn't worry about it.

Fill the tank with water and let it sit outside for an hour. If there is no leaks, then I wouldn't worry about it. If you do reseal it, DO NOT cut the silicone from in between the glass. You just want to remove the silicone you see.

Agree, if it holds water don't take a scalpel to it. I had this issue with one of my older tanks and for added peace of mind I just doubled up on the silicone. It was in the back in the corner so I used a lot and didn't care about the look.
