Well I ordered a Mag 9.5 over a week ago and that was put on backorder and then on Sat. I got notification that they were in stock and mine had shipped. Got it today only when I opened the box the company had sent me a QuietOne 4400. I called and they apologized but said the Mag drives are still out of stock. They offered to credit my account and send one out asap if I return this pump otherwise I can keep it and call it even.
The QO is more than enough pump for what I'm doing but I've never used them. So does anyone have good experience/horror stories they'd like to share and help me decide if it stays or goes back. If they're a good pump I don't mind not putting in a Mag + I'll get more for less.

i have ran 2 different size ones for years and have no complaints at all and from some things i have read they are quieter running than the mag pumps.

I have a quiet one 6000 and I love it! Very quiet and does a great job. No problems with this pump.

I use to run a quiet one pump. It would not start sometimes and used a lot of electricity. I switched over to a tunze silence. I would buy a mag over a quiet one any day. If you don't need the pump now, ask them how long before they come in stock and if it isn't in an acceptable timeframe ask for a full refund and not credit. Then buy the mag from somewhere else.

Well X I really hope you dont have to say "told ya" but majority rules tonight. Like I said I've always used Mag drive so I'm admittedly nervous about using this pump. And it's not a must have situation but more like this project has dragged on long enough, get it done and get on to the next one. So I guess I'll build and paint all the new plumbing and install this Saturday.
Thanks to everyone for the input!:)

I know a few people who run the quietone pumps, but they are not picky people and chose price over quality. Not saying they are a bad pump, I just feel they are unreliable.

I just used a 1st generation or so (not the latest) version of the Quiet one 3000 (700+ gph) that I pulled out of the basement on my new tank.

    My impressions:

Once settled in, it was very quiet. I was impressed by the rugged build of the impeller and I really didn't see a need to replace it.

    Until...

Mine was low on electricity but I had the same problem at xmetalfan - my pump was 50/50 for restarting after turning it off. This was unacceptable. I had to remove the front plate, mess around and restart to get it going. Even this took a few tries.

Recently I met some big wigs at LifeGuard (the manufacture) face to face. I actually spoke to them about this. The rep mentioned that some time ago, there was a batch that had poor spacing on the impeller caps or the like that caused this issue. He assured me that it has been taken care of since. As my pump was old, I took his explanation as truth. Doing so, they may be a pretty good pump now. Just don't get an old one.

I have replaced it with an Eheim 1260. This pump is just as quiet, but no problems with restarting. But it cost $100 more than the Quiet One.

    For what it is worth...
