I'm just kind of curious about this, though I am not ready to buy a pump for my soon to be 29 gallom sump, but I have an old Magnum350 filter doing nothing, could I use that for a pump? I would have the flow controls on it and I would more than likely have it gutted out so it won't restrict water flow none. I also would do something to restrict the flow a little in my overflow box some. so what do you think?

It could work. There is no need to throttle the overflow back as the return flow from the pump will control how much water will go into the overflow. You want the overflow to handle more flow than you return pump can move.
