Anyone here put a powerhead in their sump?

I noticed detritus settling at some areas in my sump, and a little in my chaeto, and figured it couldn't be helping situations. I sucked the detritus out today while cleaning, but figured I would try putting a spare Koralia 1 I had in the sump to keep detritus in suspension.

Just curious to see if anyone else had this problem or tried doing the same.

When I do my "once in a blue moon" WC, I suck all that detritus out. The only negative side to that(IMO) is that your water column is always going to look dirty/cloudy. Your Goniporas would trive in that condition, if you had any.

I have an Alveopora - similar to the gonipora but easier to care for from what I heard. I rarely do water changes as well - just did a 20 gallon change today. That's when I noticed the excess buildup and figured it couldn't be a good thing to let settle for so long.

I have the same problem in my sump, but the Fiji Mud is the main culprit. And I have two sponge filter pads, one in the overflow and the other is placed after the refugium.
I dont think that by placing a PH in your sump will fix that, only "dirty" your water.

Hrrm. I need to get some sort of mechanical filtration going on then I suspect. I was hoping that keeping stuff in suspension would aid in getting it skimmed out. Water has seemed clear all afternoon; when I set up my next tank and get a new sump built for it I'll either do a filter sock, or those sponge filter pads you have. I want / need something easy and quick to clean so the sponges will probably be the ticket.

I run one on the same reverse light cycle as my fuge. There is no dirty water look because it comes on and stirs things at lights out. By the time lights come back on the skimmer and corals have taken all the detritus out of the water column.

I use a powerhead in my sump on my 30g, I don't think I'm going to put one in my live rock "fuge" on my new tank's sump though. I'm hoping it becomes a nice calm place for pods etc to reproduce and then get sucked up to the display tank.
