    Hi Guys,

i am replumbing my sump as we speak and wanted to make sure this was a go before I started gluing. The pipes seem to tilt down because of the weight. Is this normal and acceptable or should I brace it to the top of the stand somehow? Thanks in advance.

Looks like it might be a little loud with all those bends, but for the most part it seems OK. Are you going to get hangers to support the sagging side? Why is there a true union feeding the fuge? Seems like a waste to use such an expensive connector in that situation when a regular ball valve would do the same thing.

Looks good, but I would brace it to the stand some how to keep the joints from cracking over time.

Always support the weight of the PVC piping. Letting a bulkhead hold this will lead to leaks around the gsaket and possibly a catastrophic failure of the bulkhead. You can buy plastic plumbers strap that can be suspended and screwed to the wooden stand under the display.

+1 on the bracing of the pipe somehow - personally I have teflon-coated strap that I screwed into my stand. Remember that as heavy as the pipe is now, it will be heavier still when full of water.

The other suggestion I have is to get some flexible plastic tubing to extend your pipes further downward into your skimmer and fuge sections. The way you have it now, the water will exit the pipes well above the surface of the water level in your sump. This will lead to loud splashing. If you extended the pipes a bit more with flexible tubing (which you could easily cut to fit), you could terminate your pipes just at the water level in your sump. This will minimize splashing and bubbling (bubbling will happen if your pipes extend below the water level of your sump).

    Hope this helps,

    Jeremy

Whew!!!! Well that wasn't very much fun. Murphy's Law struck again today. I thought that I had a 1 inch bulkhead, but it turns out it was actually a 3/4 inch. I was going by all of the material I had read on the overflow kits. Anyway, I had to make a quick trip to Home Depot and Lowes but got the things I needed. None of the hose clamps I have are the right size either, so I am going to have to pick up some of those as well. I have everything hooked back up (except the UV sterilizer) and everything seems to be working. I hope that you all approve. Now, let the lashing begin :)

The pipes I had on the end were scraps for pictures. I cut longer ones on both, but appreciate the recommendation. It sure helps.

I strapped one side with some bracing I had and it seems to be working. Does it look like I need more?

I used true union ball valves because I wanted a quality valve and had to place an order with bulk reef supply anyway :)

The sump is actually more quiet than my other one. The new skimmer is working and can't wait to see what it pulls. I am getting some small bubbles in my tank, but I don't think it is my sump. I think it might be the power head. Anyway, I am going to watch it and see how it does. Please let me know if you see anything that could make it better. Thanks for all of the help!!!!

    Regards,
    Ivy
