Im new to the salt water hobby so please excuse my ignorance. I bought some LR last week and it came with this (see pic). It's the light green colored thing attached to the LR "center of photo". I haven't a clue as to what it is or if it's reef tank safe:thinking2. Can someone please identify it and provide me with some background on it? Thank you all in advance.

Is it good for the tank? I do apologize for the horrible picture.

    Yeap, sponge.

    Much better to ask.

Filter feeder, most prefer lower lighting areas of the sump and tank, and under shaded areas of live rock.

Yes nice addition to a tank, and harmless.

Awesome! Thank you all very much. Should I reposition the rock to give it less light? I only have a single bulb 48" T5HO set up. My tank set up is only two weeks old.... But, my parameters are all solid. Used LR and LS, SG of 1.024.

    No I would not.

It is doing fine where it is. You should start to see more of them as the tank becomes more established.

Just like copepods, bristle worms, sm. brittle stars, all part of a healthy system.
