Look who took a ride on my new liverock.

I guess it does not like camera flashes. It is a tiny feather duster.

Looks like the rock also had a hairy crab inside. It's about the size of a quarter and only comes out at night when the leds are on. It is an evil looking guy who wouldn't let me take a photo of him before he ran back into the rock.

might want to take steps to remove it then David IME
size of crab is no indication of potential damage, a fish resting can be sneaked up on and damage and stress done ,even if the fish gets away from the attack, split fins and then subsequent problems can result in the fishes demise ( I have lost fish to the after effects of a night attack from a crab)

If you know which rock its in, and can get that rock out and shake it about in a bucket of tank water - thats worked for me

also a jam jar (marmalade is also OK) slanted against the rock you think its in, with food inside also works - crab goes in for food, but cant climb up the slippery glass

also Aquamedics trap pest- does work, just have to put the food far enough back in the trap to ensure crab crawls all the way in

I am going to agree completely with you on that. I caught his claws dipping down from underneath the rock where a hole was going for the fish when I spotted him at night. The fish were too fast for it but the stress factor is definitely a concern let alone injuries to them.

So I pulled out the live rock and managed to poke him out with a hanger into the bath tub. Attached is a picture of the scary sucker.

Looks almost like a gorilla crab. I would throw him in your sump or flush him.

Yep, I flushed the sucker. I hate to do that to a live creature but I can't imagine anyone wanting one at the LFS anyhow.

I think you are dead on with that. Gorilla crab.

Yep, I would get rid of him as well. Those look like some nasty little claws he's got.
