Just stumbled across this tank I bought my little brother when he won a beta at the local fair. The fish died and I have this tank sitting in front of me and im wondering about making some changes (adding a center overflow) and small sump for w/e lr and macro algae.

tank is a 7.5" cube tank i got from petco or somewhere few yrs back, its a total of 2 gallons.

Im thinking a small frag tank to keep at the ladies house?

some neon gobies as well... uh oh i may have my hands cut out for me.

What are some thoughts on this?

I can use a 5 gallon bucket as a stand/sump/fuge combo. I can get some maxi jet as a return. Im sure 2.3 gallon w/c a week n itll be fine.

Here's what i got so far.

I used an old attachment from my vacuum that will be used for the center overflow. Im might etch teeth into the top, but im not sure how necessary itll be. I think i will just because.

I need to get some silicone tomorrow to seal it up, but i think it should work.

The return has yet to be devised, but im thinking small maxijet and i might have it come back up thru the over flow in a smaller diameter tube, or just thru the back of the tank. not sure yet. I was thinking about a par 38 for a light, or a 30. still this is an idea in progress.

again a cool idea but difficult....also 2.3 gallons is a large change like 50% capacity almost....id recommend either making it 1 gallon bi weekly or lowering it down a bit....too much change all at once can do more harm than help

You'll get bored real quick with a tank that small...I did. It will require more work and there isn't much you'll be able to get in there. I wouldn't recommend you put any fish in it.

Here's a thread to a small vase I setup last year to test LEDs, I got bored with it and pretty much gave it away a few months ago (sold it to a friend but never got paid :))

once it is cycled you could probably use a fluorecent bulb rated for 6500 or 10000 to grow softies for now
