I have seen aptasia but know there are many varities of pest anemone. When I set up my tank with dry rock I did buy 1 lb of live rock. On the rock came soem feather dusters, yellow sponge, pods, bristle worms, neven a reef hermit. Who knows what else but my question is with regards to this dark clearish thing that pops out of a hole like a featherworm would its tube and it dissapears back into the hole whenever the rock is touched. I think it also goes in at night. Do anemones retract into a hole and dissapear like this?

Aptasia will when its touched :( I would get some peppermint shrimp. If its aptasia they will attack it :) At Least that's what they did in my tank :) I have been told it is a hit & miss with them so I got 8 of them :) Good luck

It looks nothing like an aptasia. When its out and open it is perectly cicular and about the color of an aptasia but no strands are not thin nor do they go in every direction. It fans open like a fanworm and th strands are very short and thick

Best bet would be to upload a pic, it will make it easier for people to try and identify

Yes very small prob less t hen a 1/2inch across. I have searched the internet to try and find pictures but cant find anything that matches it a couple things were close but nothing to be sure of. I am not even sure it is an aneomone since I never see a mouth. It comes out of the rock daily now when I mvoed the rock it hid for a couple weeks before popping out again
