too many variables to predict which will grow faster. but as a guess on my tank, my palys have grown quicker.

IME, it depends on the specific coral. Some zoas and plays I've had grow really fast, others grow really slow and others are moderate growers. If you provide them proper conditions, they should reach their fullest growth rate.

saying paly's and Zoa's is like saying "cats". You could mean a house cat, a tiger, or a bobcat.

There are so many different types of paly's and Zoa's there is no blanket "growth speed" data.

I have one set of zoa's that has gotten around 30 new heads in the past several months while another has only gotten 7 in the same period.

but... IME, zoa's tend to grow faster than Paly's. But I would not say that's indicative of all.

    what's your alk at?

Get the nitrates down a bit. Zoas will grow faster with slightly dirty water, like 3-5ppm as their internal symbiotic zooxanthelae will grow faster, proving more food.

As for growth rate... in my tank, I had a colony that 6 months ago was 2 or 3 polyps, and is now closer to 300-350. I have another colony I got at the same time that has grown a total of 4 new heads. Maybe 5.

Lucky for me my PPE's are growing quickly, about 150 heads in 8 months. I might frag it up a bit soon...
