    Overflow Suggestions?

    This is for a new build. 46 BF w/ 20g sump/fuge.

Wanted to do mega overflow but can't find the "wall" that gets siliconed in the tank.

Overflow box toward top of tank with bulkhead and required plumbing?

I also want to install a bulkhead for my return line. What size is recommended for return?

    3/4 or 1" drain?

Are you wanting to do a coast to coast style overflow? I hear the bean animal over flow is a pretty cool and good working idea. I would google it and check it out. For a drain line the smallest I would ever go would be 1" and Im sure others would be quick to agree..

A 1 inch drain and 3/4 return is adequate for most tanks. I have 2 1" overflows on my 200g, and only 1 is used. The other is a backup.

As far as that "wall" you could find it if you wanted, but the megaflow type one is too large and bulky, especially on a 46 bow.

You are far better off with a simple oversized elbow for space reasons. There are a ton of ways to do an overflow, and most are very quiet, with some being silent.

The bean animal type works, but is excessively overcomplicated (yeah that much lol) for most people.

That Bean animal overflow looks cool but a bit too much for the 46 bow.

anyone just using a Overflow box siliconed in corner of the tank with a bulkhead a few inches down from the top of the tank? How'd you do the drain lines? Thanks

Mine is kind of the same idea, but no box on my 40 breeder.

It's not dead silent on the frag tank, but it is pretty quiet. The skimmer still makes a lot more noise than it.

I will have to show pics, I did not design the one on my frag tank, but I did do the ones on my 200g DT. There are a ton of ways you can plumb them.

As far as your way, simply having the bulk headwith the elbow inside the "box" and a tee with a riser with a vent (hole drilled in the top of the cap) and then the other part of the tee facing down, and then draining that way would work.

Mine on the frag tank is simply a male thread through fitting with an o ring on the outside and a washer on the inside of the FPT fitting to slip then a piece of pvc with slots in it for the overflow part, and a cap. All of these internal parts are not glued.

I know,a picture would say more, but it's so simple. My only doubt is how much flow it can handle. It handles a MJ1200 as a return pump from the sump quite well.

A pic would help! I have seen pics of a set-up like this before so I'm sure I can figure it out. I guess I just wanted the advise from the experts here as I trust the responses I get from here.

Should I maybe put a back up drain pipe within the box with one elbow facing down and one facing up for a fail safe?

    I figured I would need about a 600 gph pump for this. 46 BF 20g sump/fuge Right?
