Have a long-spined black urchin, his body is like 4-5 inches. Had him for about a week and a half. Fed him veggie seaweed on a clip 3 days ago. A portion of 3 inches by 2 inches. Fed him again yesterday the same proportions. He hasn't moved from his spot in the upper right hand corner of the glass in a day and a half.

Did I overfeed him? I had to shut off the whole system and lots of deitrus shot out into my DT from the sump today. Tried to reboot the system as fast as possible but there was much cloudiness in the water for about 45 minutes.

    Is he gonna be okay?

He should be okay It may be over feeding. Have you tried feeding again? I tend to feed phytomax to mine instead of whole foods. They're fighters. He should be okay;)

Whats phytomax? I am so sick of spending money on tests, and vitamins, and chemicals...most of these things I don't even need, but THINK I need.

How do you feed it to him?

Kent Marine PhytoMax. I think it's the more concentrated version of the PhytoPlex. It's for filter feeding inverts. One drop per 50gals. It's very inexpensive as well;)
I know what you mean. I spend more money on additives and tests than I do on fish and corals. Some things I have on my shelf, I haven't even taken them out of their packaging.

Personally, i wouldnt feed a sea urchin. I've had a few and without me ever feeding them they have out grown my tank. They grow fast, and if you feed him he'll grow even faster.
Your tank should have enough fauna for him. Just my opinoin!

If you mean my tank should have enough algae for him, I don't know. I think a lot of stuff died off during the move. But there is tons of purple corraline. I just wouldn't want to eat the same thing everyday, haha. Yeah, I think I will stop feeding him. He just LOVES the seaweed soooo much. Thank goodness my tang hasn't recognized the clip as food yet or there would be a scrabble. He hasn't even recognized the sinking veggie pellets, but the blenny sure has!!!!!

I wouldn't feed an urchin either – they will feed off your reef and do rather well at that. I had one several years back, one became about 20 in no time at all, my kids use to try and count them – was fun to watch them lose their place and have to restart ! I had to pull them out and give them away.
