Putting together a 190g FOWLR setup. Went and picked up a hand crafted oak stand and canopy with a real nice double stain. Builder put a few extra nice touches on it as we know him pretty well. Unfortunately the guy made the canopy a "lift the lid" type versus what we'd asked, panels that open from the front of the lid. Wife has issues with her forearms so can not lift much weight which is primarily why we'd asked for the 'front panel' style.

Also, having a lid lift type canopy precludes from placing anything on top of it. I think it'd be to much of a pita to remove plant, room decor etc from top to feed every day. On the other hand, i started thinking about it that it would be easier to service the tank whereas the whole lid lifts up versus having to removed the entire canopy.

Before I ask the guy to redo it (which I know will be alot of work) I'm wondering if this is a mixed blessing and should just keep it as is. Please provide your .02 for something I've not thought of and/or should think of! Thank you very much :D

Can-o-worms here LOL~I've personally been dealing with a couple of, didn't get what I ordered and paid for~of late and so my panties are inna bunch because of it. May not be the best persona to reply to this post but.....Have him do it the way you asked and what you paid to have done! Let alone your wife will not be able to lift the lid which to me is unacceptable period :( that's my .02

I think having the ease of both of you being able to open the canopy for daily tasks such as feeding etc... is more of a priority than occasionally having to take the entire canopy off for heavy maintenance. If it were me, have them redo it.

Given your situation, I vote redo.

Seriously, thank ya'll very much for your input. Although after discussing it w/wifey whereas she's thinking of just leaving it as is, ya'll just (indirectly) gave me an idea. I wonder if he can take it back and add panels to the front?? That way we'd have the best of both worlds...hmm You guys rULe!

You could add a power lift to raise the canopy.

I was just about to suggest that same idea.

+1 to the panels. I think that would make it easy on you and your wife. Plus that should make for a quick redo on the builder's part.
